STARS of the week... christian, shelton, and scott!

this past weekend

some sweet polite boys asked if they could perform

in front of our store, and we said

are you kidding!?  go knock'em dead!

 

we weren't prepared to hear such greatness...

they were amazing!

they harmonized so sweetly,

they smiled when they sang,

and they mesmerized the shoppers

and diners out on the sidewalk!

 

this is SHELTON and he is 13 years old...

he plays the guitar and the ukelele

and he's learning piano...

plus he sings! 

he likes to do the breakouts and runs when he sings...

 

this is CHRISTIAN on the left...  he is 11 years old. 

his brothers say he has a really strong voice

for singing the melody in their songs...

that's SCOTT on the right...  he is 15 years old.

he sings harmony

and sometimes he plays the bongo!

 

together they are incredible...

but they're not entirely sure what to call their group yet...

so for now they just go by the welch brothers,

which i think is super catchy!

fun in new york city

my husband and i went to new york city

to attend TOY FAIR recently!

i was excited to discover that it was

the 110th anniversary of toy fair,

because it also happens to be

Gigi's 10th anniversary this year!

we didn't just work while we were in the big apple...

we also went to museums, rode the subway,

saw shows, and explored lots of neighborhoods...

here's some of the stuff we saw!

random new york

i'm going on vacation soon...

which reminded me that i never shared these pics

with you from my last big trip!

here are a few things that caught my eye

in NEW YORK CITY back in february...

my, how time flies!

 

 

 

 

 

 

so off i go on a new adventure...

this time we are going to ITALY and CROATIA!

and i will make sure to look for things to photograph

that i think you will like!

 

 

we rescued tiny toys from ice

we did THIS not too long ago...

we froze a bunch of little toys along with

colorful bits of string

and a few random left over fish eggs

in big blocks of ice.

then we invited kids to play with it!

this is fun to play with outside

when it is really really hot...

 

we used roasting pans to contain the ice

while kids scraped, picked, and rubbed the ice

trying to get the toys trapped inside...

 

we froze the toys in layers...

adding water and freezing a little bit at a time.

otherwise the toys would just float or sink

to the bottom or the top before freezing.

 

this activity became a zen practice in patience.

the most successful miners were the ones who could

patiently wait for the ice to melt.

 

and it really didn't take that long...

the cute little reptiles and amphibians

just fell right out with a little time and HEAT.

we put two blocks of ice out at first,

and then pulled two more out of the cooler

after an hour or so.

what's up: suddenly giant fish eggs

suddenly giant fish eggs are awesome.

you add water to little tiny colorful beads,

and then they puff up into these beautiful, glowy,

jelly-like marbles...  so fun!

the SHADOWBOXERS sing us a song!

have you heard THE SHADOWBOXERS yet?

they are a young band out of atlanta

who have a special fondness for the 30A area,

so we have been lucky to have them perform here a lot.

they have been busy this summer

touring the country with the INDIGO GIRLS

and putting together their first full length record.

they asked fans to help fund their first album

through KICKSTARTER,

and the support was huge!

they reached their goal very quickly.

they recorded some special music videos

for those that donated,

and i wanted to share the one they made for us!

here they are, playing one of their newest originals:

they are amazing musicians!

from the previous week's lemonade stand,

but it got rained out  :(

hopefully we will have better weather

for the lemonade stand scheduled for TODAY 3:00-5:00...

gummy fans rejoice

i really really love gummy bears...

i lived in germany when i was a kid

and there was a "brot man" (bread man)

who would drive his truck around the neighborhood

selling fresh bread and candy...

i would always get gummy bears.

 

over there we pronounced it "gooomy bears"...

haribo is the best...  das original.

 

since i've become a grown up

i've discovered chocolate covered gummy bears...

they are sooooo good, but a little hard to find.

i first got them at fao schweetz in new york city

but i've even found some tasty ones at the cracker barrel

and i know you can get them online at dylan's candy bar.

 

now you can find some really fun "gooomy" stuff at Gigi's,

including this gummy bear peace sign tank!

 

and this gummy bear pillow which is two sided

pink on one side, blue on the other...

 

this gummy bear bracelet feels so real...

the bears are squishy!

 

 

this cute gummy print tote can carry a lot of candy!

 

 

we have gummy earrings...

 

gummy silicone band bracelets....

 

 

gummy notebooks...

 

 

and gummy necklaces!

 

this is not available at gigi's but i kind of wish it was...

seriously?  a gummy bear chandelier!

 

 

and how cool is this...

some clever person created a gummy bear skin rug!
