we just got back from NEW YORK CITY for TOY FAIR.
we had so much fun picking out toys for the store,
eating at really great restaurants,
and going to art museums.
i like all kinds of ART and museums,
but i especially like going to the MOMA
or MUSEUM OF MODERN ART.
it doesn't feel like work at all, you know?
there is excitement around every corner.
they have a great kids program too...
the piece above, you may have guessed, is called OOF
it's really BIG. and funny.
"oof" is not really a word, but it should be.
kind of makes you think about what a word is.
the artist says it refers to the world of comic strips
and all the made up words
used to represent sounds and action.
we visited both the MOMA
and the AMERICAN FOLK ART MUSEUM.
the folk art museum also has a children's program.
the two museums are located right next to each other
on west 53rd street.
i love this.
it means photography is allowed
as long as you don't use a flash.
makes me happy because i love to look back
at all my favorite pieces.
and of course share them with you!
remember kids, before clicking away in a museum
you should always check first to see if it's allowed.
so i'm showing you just a few of my favorites...
you know the saying
"i don't know a lot about art,
but i know what i like"
that's totally me.
and hopefully you'll like them too!
i've noticed i always tend to like the paintings
that i could imagine being made into a dress.
i would very much like a dress
in this yellow stripe with a little touch of red, please.
love how the white is a "dirty" white too.
this amazes me.
one side of the painting looks illuminated
while the other looks as though it's in the shade.
meanwhile they are both made
with the exact same color scheme,
just in different order.
also would make an awesome dress
if there were a bunch of these "blocks" stuck together.
this makes me think of ugly dolls...
maybe this painting inspired those toy designers!
it's fun to look at these paintings
and try to imagine what the artist intended...
like looking at clouds and picking out the bunnies.
there's really no right or wrong in ART.
i saw a lot of families playing this game together
at both the moma and the folk art museum.
these colors kill me.
i love them so much.
instead of just seeing a brown smear,
you can really tell what colors were used
to make this lovely shade of mud...
i kinda see a smiley face
and a hand in the bottom left corner
making the "A-OKAY" sign.
what do YOU see?
i want to wear this painting RIGHT NOW!
or at least have little girl dresses in the store to sell to you.
this could be a cool print for boys swim trunks too...
sometimes i wish i knew how to sew.
how fun is this!
i want to play with toy cars on this.
looks like an aerial view of a fun little village to me.
okay, how about a skirt?
i'd wear it with a black and white stripe tank top
and black chucks.
love it!
this was at the folk art museuem.
love all the dabs of color.
there is actually a photograph of the artist in the middle.
her "self portrait"!
at the folk art museum they had a special show of QUILTS!
this starburst design looks like forks to me.
they were made by stitching together
lots of little scraps of fabric.
so now that the art work is actually in fabric form...
it's one step closer to being garments!
the security guards were watching me very closely...
ha ha.
again, a quilt...
many tiny scraps of fabric make up this design.
i love the contrast of the black horse
against the pastel back drop.
love this! because the artwork IS ALREADY a dress!
and here is my husband DAVID
standing in front of a huge andy warhol painting
of repetitive cows on a bright blue background.
it was his birthday yesterday
and i know what he really wanted
was a shirt made out of this print.
(he would totally wear it.)
but this picture was the best i could do.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID!
by the way, be on the look out for new art kits, art supplies, and books about art at gigi's. we found lots of great new art products to sell in our store while we were in new york...coming soon!
I love the fun little village!

you saw it too, right?
i have no idea what the artist intended,
but it would make a great play mat for kids!
